Zoe is a sensory resting chair developed to create calm, security and comfort for the user. The chair provides an enveloping and calming experience, which can help support concentration, reduce restlessness and create a clearer sense of bodily boundaries.

Zoe can be particularly suitable for people with special needs as well as people with dementia who benefit from sensory stimuli and pressure that have a grounding and calming effect. It can be used in, among other settings, schools, snoezelen rooms, day care facilities, nursing homes and therapeutic environments where sensory stimulation, regulation and calm are a focused part of the work.

What does the weight in Sally do to the body?

Zoe is equipped with two weighted arms, each weighing 4 kg. The arms can be placed over the user and provide a feeling of being safely and comfortably enveloped. The deep pressure from the arms can help the body calm down and support a sense of relaxation, presence and well-being.

When the body experiences calm and firm pressure, it can have a positive effect on the nervous system for some people and contribute to a more relaxed state. This may, among other things, be linked to the body’s natural release of oxytocin, which is often associated with security, calm and relaxation.

Ease of use

Zoe is simple to use and can be adapted to the user’s needs. During use, one weighted arm is first placed over the user, followed by the other arm, so that the arms cross the body and create an enveloping sensation. The arms can be positioned in different ways, depending on what feels most comfortable and calming for the user.

If only one weighted arm is needed, the other arm can be zipped off. One arm has a Velcro fastening, and the other arm has a strap. These can be attached to each other so that the arms remain more stable over the user during use.

As Zoe is a resting chair with weight and an enveloping function, it is primarily recommended for mobile and self-reliant users. Elderly or physically weak users may find it difficult to get out of the chair on their own, and therefore an individual assessment should always be made to determine whether Zoe is the right aid.
